LOST - BUSY MITCHELL PUTS HALLOWEEN ON HOLD

BUSY MITCHELL PUTS HALLOWEEN ON HOLD
Halloween is on hold for LOST star ELIZABETH MITCHELL's four-year-old son - because mommy was working on a movie as the trick or treaters came calling.
The actress, who played kindly Mrs Claus in family film The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, was too busy to organise a Halloween party last weekend (31Oct09), so she has decided to trick her son into thinking the spookiest night of the year hasn't happened yet.
She explains, "Every single time kids in costumes would come up (to the door) my husband would be like, 'Look over there'. We're gonna stage a Halloween. I talked to my neighbours (and) we're gonna give them all candy and they're just gonna give it all back to us.
"We're dressing as a Scooby (Doo) mystery."

Daniel Dae Kim ‘Lost’ his driver’s license

November 4, 2009
Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Jin-Soo Kwon in the hit television show ‘Lost’, pleaded no contest to drunk-driving charges, stemming from an arrest last year.

Kim was seen driving erratically in Honolulu, Hawaii, last October. Police detained him and he was charged with driving under the influence. As a result, Daniel Dae Kim will have to serve 72hours of community service, in addition to paying a $500 fine and court costs of $212. More importantly, for the safety of Hawaii residents, Kim’s license has been suspended for six months.

Daniel Dae Kim had the usual things to say to reporters about the incident, claiming he was relieved and grateful that the whole thing was over.

Kim’s arrest was just the latest, in what has become known as the ’Lost’ curse, following in the shoes of former cast members, Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros, who were also arrested for driving under the influence and both pleaded guilty in 2007 and 2006. Perhaps DUI can also mean Dharma Under the Initiative. Both Watros and Rodriguez left the show after their arrests, so rumours are already circulating about Kim’s character, Jin-Soo Kwon.

Kim has appeared in numerous television shows since 1994, appearing in a number episodes of ‘24’ before landing one of the lead roles on ‘Lost’. He’s also been in movies like ‘For Love of the Game’, ‘Hulk’, ‘Spider-Man 2’, ‘The Cave’ and ‘Crash’. People Magazine voted him one of the ‘Sexiest Men Alive’ in 2005. Daniel was born in Korea and thanks to his recent success, has received numerous acting awards, like a Multicultural Prism Award, an AZN Asian Excellence Award and a Vanguard award from the Korean-American Coalition.

'Lost''s Naveen Andrews to Guest on 'Law & Order: SVU'

November 3, 2009 By: Amy Kuperinsky
'Lost' fans are about to get a double dose of Naveen Andrews.

TV Guide is reporting that Andrews will guest on an upcoming episode of 'Law & Order: SVU,' airing right around the time of 'Lost''s final season premiere in Jan., 2010.

Does this mean that Andrews' character, Sayid Jarrah, will make an early exit? So far no details have been announced regarding his 'SVU' guest spot, nor his presence in 'Lost' season 6. What we do know is that Andrews will begin taping in the "next week or so" in New York, while the cast of 'Lost' reportedly films episode 6 in Hawaii.

Andrews, 40, has received both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his role as Sayid. He's also starred in a number of films, including 'Bride and Prejudice' and the Oscar-winning epic 'The English Patient.'

Elizabeth Mitchell is an unlikely action hero for 'Lost' and 'V'

The self-professed theater nerd quickly lands on her feet after her character is seemingly killed on 'Lost.' She's an FBI agent battling aliens on the new show.

From The Others to the Visitors: Elizabeth Mitchell talks about battling the otherworldly on her new ABC series 'V'
By Shawna Malcom

November 3, 2009

Elizabeth Mitchell was wearing mismatched shoes -- an Ugg on one foot, her husband's slipper on the other. That is, until said husband -- actor Chris Soldevilla -- appeared, having discovered the mate to Mitchell's sheepskin boot in the car. Dropping to one knee in the couple's Bainbridge Island, Wash., home, he slid it onto his wife's foot.

"My Prince Charming!" she exclaimed during a phone interview. "Look at you coming to my rescue."

On screen, it's Mitchell who's doing most of the rescuing these days. In ABC's hotly anticipated new drama "V" -- an update of the '80s miniseries that premieres tonight -- she's FBI agent Erica Evans, who helps lead the charge to save humankind from an alien race made up of the preternaturally beautiful (at least on the surface).

And then, of course, there's her role as "Lost's" enigmatic fertility doctor Juliet who, in last May's season finale, seemingly made the ultimate sacrifice -- death by hydrogen bomb -- in order to give her island cohorts a shot at rebooting their knotty lives.

No one is more surprised to find herself at the forefront of TV's fierce femmes than the actress herself.

" 'Action hero' is not something I thought I'd have the chance to do," said the self-described theater nerd who previously garnered positive notices for romancing Angelina Jolie in "Gia" and Laura Innes on "ER." "I mean, I'm 39 years old! I thought at this point, I'd be sinking into oblivion."

At least from a Hollywood perspective, the Texas native began her career fairly close to oblivion -- the Dallas Theater Center, where she honed her acting skills for about six years. Before finally landing her prized role on "Lost," she guest starred on some of television's best shows, including "Boston Legal," "House" and CSI."

Self-deprecating humor is part of Mitchell's considerable charm, though she rarely gets the opportunity to exhibit that playful side on screen. But like the brainy, tough characters she's becoming known for, Mitchell can turn steely when she feels it's warranted. Take her initial reaction to the news that "Lost" executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse planned to hook up her character, originally conceived as a romantic interest for fellow physician Jack (Matthew Fox), with the oft-shirtless reformed con man Sawyer (Josh Holloway).

"I not only hated the idea but was completely vocal about it," she said. "I told Damon and Carlton, 'We have zero chemistry, both in person and as characters. I can't think of a more boring pair.' "

To her surprise, Mitchell found herself ultimately won over by the story line, even as she realized, "Any time characters fall in love and are happy on 'Lost,' that's kind of the end for them." She learned her own end was near after she'd just said goodbye to her 4-year-old son, CJ, at the Honolulu airport.

"I was already crying," she said, "so I just cried some more." For support, she reached out to one of her younger sisters and costar Evangeline Lilly. "They came over later that night and we got rip-roarin' drunk," remembers Mitchell. "We cried and laughed and watched really stupid movies." The "Lost" bosses insist Juliet's death wasn't particularly easy for them either. "Making that call to Elizabeth was one of the hardest things we've had to do," says Lindelof. "But Juliet's actions in the finale completely catalyze what's gonna happen in the final season." Mitchell, by now a pro at keeping "Lost's" patented twists under wraps, will add only, "I've already shot [scenes] with Sawyer. It's one of those things where it appears to be one thing, and then it turns into something else."

By losing one steady gig and so quickly landing another, Mitchell has learned to embrace the unexpected. "V" executive producer Scott Peters has witnessed the actress' roll-with-it style on set. "There are actors who do a scene exactly the same way every time, but each take is a new adventure for her," he said. "Elizabeth's not afraid to play."

Particularly when her booty-kicking single mom role is fulfilling a long-held personal fantasy. "I remember watching the 'Terminator' series and thinking, 'How amazing to be [Sarah Connor] after she got all buff and crazy,' " said the actress, who has been working to bulk up her own biceps. "To be a mother fighting for your life and the lives of the people that you love -- I mean, come on. That's just fun."

It hasn't all been fun. In September, "V" shut down production for just more than a month so that the series could undergo creative tweaking. "We needed to punch everything up," Mitchell said. "Up the drama, make it more chilling. We were at a 7 and we're now at a 10."

Lost Alum Gets Found on GH

October 28, 2009 7:29 AM By

It's kind of been the year for Lost alums showing up on other TV shows, right? Dominic Monaghan and Sonya Walger (Charlie and Penny) on Flash Forward. Ian Somerhalder (Boone) on The Vampire Diaries. The Smoke Monster on Glee ... OK, not that one, but how awesome would that be? ANYWAY, this all our way of leading up to the fact that Marsha Thomason, who played the ill-fated Naomi on Lost, is set to make her daytime debut on General Hospital.

So who will she play in Port Charles? We ... kinda don't know. BUT we can say she'll be spending most of her time opposite James Franco after he debuts in November. Think maybe she's the inspiration behind that Co77X graffiti tag? If you haven't noticed, we kind of obsessed with that -- we're still accepting theories over here.

Henry Ian Cusick interview with TV Guide Magazine

Henry Ian Cusick interview with TV Guide Magazine
Posted by DarkUFO on Tuesday, October 6, 2009
Labels: Henry Ian Cusick, Interviews, Online Article, TV Guide
Thanks to SL-Lost for the heads up.

Look who’s playing Charles Darwin, brotha! It’s Lost’s Most Valuable Scotsman, Henry Ian Cusick, who’s doing an ultraproper English accent and donning 19th-century garb (think puffy shirts and high-waisted trousers) for the role of history’s most famous naturalist. Cusick tells TV Guide Magazine about the NOVA bio-drama "Darwin's Darkest Hour," which premieres Tuesday, October 6 on PBS (check local listings). And, of course, we couldn’t let the opportunity go by without asking about the final season of Lost.

What in particular attracted you to playing Darwin?
Having saw pictures of him, I thought, “Wow, wouldn’t it be cool to transform myself into this character?” But unfortunately we didn’t go with the receding-balding look. [Laughs] It was just a fascinating script and as an actor I wanted to challenge myself.

How much research was required for the role?
As soon as I found out I was doing it I went on the Internet to find out as much as I could about him—what he looked like, his early life, and I started reading The Origin of Species. It was sort of a crash course on Darwin and his life.

Playing the controversial scientist as he faces the possibility that his life’s work may have been for nothing if another scholar publishes his nearly identical theories first takes a heavy toll on Darwin in the movie—as do the personal tragedies he endures, including the loss of two young children…
That was the attraction of the script. There’s a lot of theory and science in it, but you get to find out a lot about the man and his life. He lost two children very early on. I have children—it’s every parent’s worst nightmare! From the human side it was nice to be able to show a complete man rather than just the science bit, and hopefully that will make him more interesting. He has got a fascinating life. It’s something I’m proud of.

And there is a great love story between Charles and his deeply religious wife Emma, played by Frances O’Connor…
They had 10 kids; so, even though you wouldn’t have thought the Victorians were passionate…to have 10 kids you have to be pretty passionate! They were also first cousins, which was a worry to Darwin, because he thought that’s why his children were [sickly]. She was his rock. They had a very unconventional relationship—they were quite modern. Working with France O’Conner…she’s wonderful, she’s an absolute fantastic actress [and] I had a lot of fun working with her.

Did any of Darwin’s genius rub off on you?
[Laughs] Unfortunately, no. I’ve just become more educated about Darwin.

That’s too bad, because it would take a genius to figure out what’s going on in Lost! Production has begun in Hawaii, are you privy to what’s happening in the season premiere?
I’ve read scripts for up to Episode 3. It sort of picks up, as always, where it left off, but then it jumps all over the place. We get very excited to pick up the scripts and read them and they’re still as confusing and baffling as ever. [Laughs] We’re still going, “What the hell is going on now?”

Is it a different atmosphere on set now that it’s the last season?
Most of the [cast] are making plans to move back to the mainland. I think there are only a couple people contemplating staying in Hawaii. I’m thinking about staying in Hawaii. My children are in school and to pull them out now would be tricky. We really love life here. One of the best things about Lost is I got to live in Hawaii.

With Sonya Walger, who plays Penny, on FlashForward, does that mean there will be even less of Desmond and Penny this season?
I really don’t know what’s going to happen with Penny. And, to be honest, I don’t know what’s going to happen with Desmond either. Are we going to see less of him than last season? I hope not, because we didn’t see much of him and there are a lot of things I’d like to know about him. I think Desmond’s character has become more of a peripheral character. I think now we are zooming to the end and there are a lot of questions that need to be answered…

Do you have a favorite Desmond and Penny scene?
I guess their first meeting—that was kind of fun when she and Desmond are packing up the crates in the monastery. I like that scene.

What Lost mystery do you want solved?
What is the Island and why the Island—that’s the essence of the show. And then there are a thousand little strings we probably won’t get answers to, but I guess that’s life and you can make up your own stuff, so the conversations will go on and on and on.

What’s next, after Lost is done filming?
Nothing at all, so I better start looking.

New Q&A With Michael Emerson

It may be a bit weird for some fans of “Lost” who show up this weekend to watch the Honolulu Symphony’s performances of “The Story of Babar.”

Weird because the narrator for the popular children’s story is none other than Michael Emerson, better known to fans of the hit TV show as the evil/creepy Benjamin Linus.

Linus would never narrate a story like this.

For Emerson, the extremely personable person, it’s a perfect fit.

The following are excerpts from a Q&A with the Iowa native, who took some time recently to talk about “Lost,” the orchestra, life on O’ahu and what both his and Benjamin Linus’ future holds:

What is your relationship with the Honolulu Symphony?
I am not a musician myself, and not really a singer, either — so I depend on talented others to make music for me. This will be my first association with the symphony — an introduction made by Kristin Jackson, who is publicist here for both the symphony and “Lost.”

In April, you gave us a look at what’s on your iPod — Arcade Fire, CocoRosie, Cat Power, M.I.A., Be Good Tanyas, Mike Errico, Las Ondas Marteles, Ambient Groove, Radiohead, and Boubacar Traore were the first 10 artists to pop up. That’s a pretty eclectic taste. What is your favorite genre, where does classical music fit in?
Oh, I have so many favorite genres, but I suppose I respond most to certain hypnotic kinds of rhythm — bossa nova always gets me — flamenco and fugues, Gregorian chant and ragas — I like a sense of the otherworldly and a bittersweet tone. I am interested in the peripheries of classical music more than the symphonic center — I like early and Renaissance music, solo piano and guitar and backward-looking composers like Arvo Part. I’m afraid I’m a little resistant to the big Romantic canon of the 19th century.

You play Linus so convincingly (hence the Emmy win), but with “Lost” set to wrap up, how do you think this role will affect future roles for you? Any worries of being typecast?
One of the responsibilities of my post-”Lost” life will be to make decisions about new roles and new tones in my work. While there is nothing wrong with being a successful villain, I do think I’d like a change of pace and a chance to engross audiences in something completely different. If I felt too pigeonholed by Hollywood, I would return to the stage.

“Lost” has been such a compelling series because we only get bits and pieces of the story at a time, spawning thousands of questions and just as many theories. Will fans get the answers they have been waiting for all these years in Season 6? Please?
I think (I hope) that many questions will be answered at the end of “Lost,” but it would be fitting if some mysteries remain forever unanswered. I am more interested in the ending surprising us with a new context — a new point of view- so that we have to go back and rethink everything we’ve watched. Also, I don’t see how the ending can be anything but sad.

When you recently accepted your Emmy for outstanding supporting actor, you concluded your remarks with ‘mahalo nui loa.’ How has living and working in Hawai’i affected you?
One of the best parts of my job in Hawai’i has been my exposure to an unfamiliar culture, to the foreignness of the place. It’s a pleasure not just to take in this amazing landscape, but to try to begin to absorb some of the infinite subtleties of the way Hawaiians think and speak, make music and socialize.

What are some of your favorite haunts on the island?
There are great places all over the island. In Honolulu, I have my personal favorites — town, Sasabune, Nobu and Top of Waikiki for food, and I like Lewers Lounge and The Dragon Upstairs for music. I’m a city person from New York, and I like the energy of Waikiki. The Honolulu Academy of Arts is one of my favorite museums on the planet.

Ben Linus is one of the most complicated and unreadable characters on the show. Can you tell us anything that will help us to understand his motives a little better? Is he even a bad guy anymore? He seems to be ever-evolving.
Benjamin Linus is a man forced to be a grown-up before his time. He has a life-or-death mission and no time for recreation. Despite his ruthlessness and his manipulation, I think he may turn out to be a hero. I have never known where the character was headed — it’s part of the fun of playing the part.

ABC just came out with “Flash Forward.” It seems to have a lot of the same characteristics of “Lost.” When all is said and done, what do you think the impact of “Lost” will be on television?
“Lost” seems to me to be a very influential program at this time. How it will be judged in the future is hard to say. It has certainly suggested that there is global interest in a good allegorical mystery with science-fiction dimensions.

Are there any spinoffs of “Lost” in the works or talks of doing one? Would you want to continue with Linus?
I have heard the writers say that this is the end of the line for “Lost.” I will be happy to put Benjamin to rest if the show has as satisfying a conclusion as I expect. (So many roles, so little time!)

Tell us about Michael Emerson, pre-”Lost,” and how the series has affected your career.
Michael Emerson, pre- “Lost,” was a reputable stage actor from New York who had somehow won an Emmy but hadn’t much TV experience. He is now more visible (conspicuous?) than he ever dreamt and has the enviable (but treacherous) job of choosing the next role.

What’s next for Michael Emerson? Professionally, are you looking for movies, another TV series or stage? Personally, do you plan to stick around Hawai’i?
When “Lost” ends, I will resume my life on the Mainland. I’ll look for all kinds of work, and it would be nice to do a mix of short-term projects. I’ll want to go back to the stage sometime soon. I miss the regularity of it, and I don’t want to lose the knack.

Anything else you’d like to add?
I will never forget my time in Hawai’i — life has some unexpected surprises for us, and Hawai’i has been a big one for me.

People: Lost's Sonya Walger Calls Married Life a 'Sweet Thing'

By Brian Orloff

Originally posted Tuesday September 22, 2009 10:55 AM EDT

She's been busy! Lost star Sonya Walger has a new show, ABC's FlashForward, premiering Thursday – and a new marriage.

"I got married six weeks ago," Walger, 35, said at the BAFTA LA’s 7th Annual TV Tea Party. "It's just a sweet thing. I haven't got a better word for it. It's an enormous amount of sweetness."

The actress wed screenwriter Davey Holmes in July in front of 100 guests. The best part, she says, was the ceremony's low-key nature.

"I felt very unstressed on my wedding day," she says. "I'm very grateful for that ... spending the day on my own, being super quiet and happy and just puttering around doing my own thing."

Walger and her husband also kept things casual – and musical – at their rehearsal dinner.

"We had a Beatles karaoke band," she says, confessing that it was impossible to pick a favorite tune from the Beatles catalog. "I love the ones that I can sing so it tends to be like 'Michelle' and 'Norwegian Wood' because I can sing them."

Guardian; 'Lost-mania' grips Iran

Its melodramatic, twisting plot and apocalyptic overtones were tailor-made for western audiences. Now Lost, the US television series about plane crash survivors stuck on a remote island, is to be put on commercial release in Iran following soaring sales of pirated black-market DVDs.

Silver Screen, the country's leading home video distributor, is to market the award-winning show's first three seasons – a total of 15 episodes – after buying the broadcast rights and commissioning Iranian actors to dub it into Farsi.

It has also started talks with the state broadcaster, IRIB, with a view to airing Lost on nationwide television.

Programmes will be carefully censored to exclude "un-Islamic" scenes such as those featuring scantily clad women or male-female physical contact.

Iran's culture and Islamic guidance ministry, which decides which films and programmes are shown, is expected to approve the idea.

The move follows an outbreak of what has been described as "Lost-mania", which has seen the ABC-produced series downloaded from the internet and widely discussed on Iranian websites. Large numbers of Farsi-subtitled DVDs have been sold illegally in shops.

Other long-running US dramas – including 24, Prison Break and Desperate Housewives – have been widely distributed on Iran's black market, but none has been given official approval.

Granting distribution and broadcasting rights to Lost would mark a policy reversal after officials previously criticised the series and warned media outlets against publicising it.

Mohammad Hossein Saffar-Harandi, recently sacked as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's culture and Islamic guidance minister, lambasted it for displaying "Zionist concepts". However, others insisted the programme was suitable for an Iranian audience because it has "eastern" themes.

"The atmosphere of this story, due to our classic literature, is familiar to Iranian and eastern viewers," Saeed Ghotbizadeh, a TV and cinema critic, told the Tehran-e Emrooz newspaper. "Eastern viewers can understand it better and would naturally like it.

"Because it has a religious theme, it is possible to broadcast 90% of it without censorship. But its brilliant and special characterisation might be sacrificed in Persian dubbing – a lot will depend on how well it is dubbed."

Lost's popularity has already spawned plans for an Iranian remake that would include plot revisions to match Islamic mores.

Flash Forward - Sonya Walger Interview

Posted by DarkUFO at Saturday, August 29, 2009
Thanks to Magic Box for the heads up.

IGN TV: FlashForward has a pretty bold concept. What was your reaction to it initially?

Sonya Walger: Oh, I flipped for it. I thought it was just such an outstanding piece of writing. I rang my agents immediately and was like, "How do we make this happen? What do I have to do? I'll audition for anyone you need me to audition for. I will jump through any hoops. I just want to play this part."

IGN: How would you describe your character?

Walger: Olivia is a strong, complicated woman who's a working mother. She's a trauma surgeon and a loving wife. She's devoted to her work and trying to make time for her kid. Olivia's plate is full long before the flash forward happens I think.

IGN: [FlashForward Executive Producer] David Goyer has said he plays things pretty close to the vest as far as not telling you guys what's going to happen. Do you try to get him or the other writers to reveal anything?

Walger: Not really, unless I really need it – unless I feel like I can't play the scene without a particular piece of information. But otherwise, I'm very happy just to go with what I have. There's enough on the page – the scripts are so well written. There's plenty to play, without needing to pry more secrets out of them.

IGN: Now that you've filmed a few episodes, has it been interesting to see how they've begun to lay out these puzzle pieces, aiming towards the place we saw you in in your flash forward?

Walger: It's wonderful. It's so exciting. So exciting watching the show spread out in such unexpected ways. The ripple effect of these premonitions and where they take us is really wonderful.

IGN: You've said you really don't know what role you may or may not play in Lost this year. It being the final season, are you hoping to be able to give Penny some kind of closure?

Walger: Oh, I'd love to! I'd absolutely love to but I would fully understand if they can't work it out. So either way…

IGN: I wanted to ask you about the Lost episode, "The Constant." I know I'm not alone in thinking that's one of the very best episodes of the show. When you were filming it, did you know it was something special?

Walger: Oh, it was such a great script. It really was. And Jack Bender directed it so beautifully. But I had no idea that it would turn out as well as it did and no idea it would turn out to be an episode that people responded to so warmly. I'm delighted and honored to have an episode that gets singled out.

IGN: With Desmond and Penny, there aren't that many scenes featuring the two of you throughout the entire course of the series, and yet I think many fans would say that's among their favorite relationships on Lost. I assume that has to be very gratifying.

Walger: Sure! It's lovely. It's lovely to think that people are invested in that way in our characters. Because you say, it's not like we had a lot of screen time, but it's been fun!

IGN: On FlashForward, have you had any scenes with Dominic yet?

Walger: No, not yet.

IGN: On Lost, you were involved in another very memorable moment – Charlie's death – but I assume you didn't even shoot anything with Dominic [Monaghan] since Penny was only on the video screen.

Walger: No, I met him for the first time on FlashForward!

IGN: I assume that's another case where you hear from Lost fans about how meaningful that "Not Penny's boat" scene is to them.

Walger: Yeah, I've heard that a lot – about how important and seminal that scene was. It was lovely to meet him, but it was just like meeting any other actor. It was a nice introduction! [Laughs]

IGN: Having originally signed on just for a single episode guest appearance on Lost, has it been a strange ride, entering into this world with such a rabid fanbase and such a dense mythology? I'm guessing you are asked questions you would have no way of knowing the answer to.

Walger: Yeah, sure, but honestly it's been fine. I've been quite protected from the whole Lost phenomenon, because I'm not one of the core cast. So I haven't had to do the press junkets that they have. If I deal with questions, it's just from someone in the street, and it's always lovely to have people want to come up and talk about the work. So I've been pretty protected from the whole thing.

IGN: Are you getting prepared for the fact that FlashForward is likely to be one of those show that will have fans asking so many specific questions?

Walger: Listen, if we have an 18th of the success that Lost has, it will be a lovely thing. I won't complain! It will be great.

Exclusive: 'V' Shutting Down for Tune-Up (Could this be a chance for Juliet to return?)

By Josef Adalian

ABC's buzz-heavy new fall drama "V" is taking a two-week creative hiatus.
Warner Bros. TV has decided to temporarily shut down production on the alien invasion series, with filming scheduled to halt next Wednesday, a studio rep confirmed exclusively to TheWrap. Because "V" doesn't premiere until Nov. 3, the move won't impact scheduling of the series or ABC's ability to air the six episodes it's planning for the fourth quarter.

The studio wouldn't discuss the specific reasons behind the move, saying only that the shutdown was designed to boost "V" in the long-term.

WBTV wants to "take advantage of our November premiere to maximize creative opportunities and deliver the audience the best show possible," a Warners spokesperson said.
People familiar with the decision indicated the hiatus was put in place so that writers would have time to beef up future scripts and bring them in line with the quality of the pilot, which has been getting good buzz from bloggers and critics since a successful screening at Comic-Con last month.
No staffing changes are being made, insiders said, though in situations like this, it's not unheard of for new writers to be added to the roster.

"V" is a remake of the classic 1980s NBC miniseries (and later series) about lizard-like aliens who come to earth under a friendly guise. The new version stars Elizabeth Mitchell ("Lost"), Scott Wolf, Morena Baccarin and Morris Chestnut.

Short-term shutdowns for first-year series, especially dramas, have become increasingly common in recent years. With networks often unwilling to give shows second chances if they don't make a strong impact out of the box, studios want to make sure they do everything possible to ensure scripts are in the best possible shape for filming.

Such pre-emptive moves can also end up saving money since they reduce the likelihood of costly re-shoots.

ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" is widely cited as the best example of a recent series that benefited from a pre-premiere production hiatus.

But even long-time shows have recently found a need to take a break: 20th Century Fox TV halted work on "24" for 18 days last fall. The result was one of the best-reviewed seasons in the show's history.

ABC plans an aggressive programming push this fall

ABC plans an aggressive programming push this fall

By Gary Levin, USA TODAY
PASADENA, Calif. — You can't accuse ABC of playing it safe.
The network is launching seven series early this fall, including four family comedies back-to-back Wednesdays. (An eighth, sci-fi remake V, is due Nov. 3). That compares with three or fewer newcomers on each of its major rivals.

Its two biggest pushes are sitcom Modern Family, which has gained early buzz, and Flash Forward, a drama about the aftereffects of a freaky incident in which the population blacks out for a few minutes and sees visions about their futures.

At a time when networks are cutting back, ABC is aggressive, even though past such efforts have not always yielded fruit. The network finished the September-May broadcast season in third place and saw ratings slip 3%, though ratings for Dancing With the Stars, The Bachelor and college football rose.

FIND MORE STORIES IN: American Idol Lost Desperate Housewives Jay Leno NBC Kelsey Grammer Jerry Bruckheimer Courteney Cox Patricia Heaton The Bachelor
"We have to remain ambitious; we've only succeeded when we've ... taken chances," ABC Entertainment Group chief Steve McPherson says, citing the twin-hit 2004 season of Lostand Desperate Housewives. Even with cost constraints, "there are certain shows like Flash Forward that absolutely demand cinematic production values."

After a number of failures, including all the strike-shortened series the network relaunched last fall, ABC also had more slots to fill. Though the slate presents a marketing challenge, "we chose to be aggressive rather than being satisfied bringing back shows with marginal ratings," says scheduling chief Jeff Bader. (Some of those, such as sitcom Better Off Ted, are coming back anyway.) "The risk of launching seven new shows is worth the potential upside."

With Jay Leno's weeknight move to NBC's prime-time lineup, ABC, like CBS, expects an easier time winning drama-hungry viewers at 10 ET/PT. Two of the new series, The Forgotten, a Jerry Bruckheimer crime drama, and Eastwick, a frothy spin on The Witches of Eastwick, will air at that hour. "There's opportunity for us at 10 no matter how Leno does," McPherson says.

ABC also has the biggest stable of TV stars. New shows are led by Kelsey Grammer, Courteney Cox, Patricia Heaton, Christian Slater, Rebecca Romijn and — for the Lost crowd —V's Elizabeth Mitchell.

And it's looking for another: McPherson says he'd "absolutely" want Paula Abdul for Dancing and said he called his "old friend" after the judge bowed out of American Idolin a salary dispute.

"I was a little stunned by the decision," he says. "We would love to have her on Dancing," either as a contestant or judge. "There's a sensitivity and an emotion to her that balances out Idol, and we'd love to get a piece of that."

Flash Forward Shows Flashes of Brilliance

Flash Forward Shows Flashes of Brilliance
Today 2:22 PM PDT by Drusilla Moorhouse

Hello again from the press tour, where we were just treated to a screening of the cinematic Flash Forward pilot, which delivers more action and intrigue than most summer blockbusters at the multiplex.

Two things you need to know: (1) In the series, a global event causes everyone (OK, nearly everyone) on earth to lose consciousness and share a glimpse of their future on April 29, 2010. (2) Find a red magic marker and circle Sept. 24, 2009, on your calendar, because that's when this series premieres, and you do not want to be left behind on this epic journey, especially if you were one of those saddies who couldn't watch Lost live until you caught up on DVD.

Wanna get in early on this one? Read on...

Our personal flash-forward visions tell us this show is going to stick around for a while—and ABC has shown great commitment to the series. The pilot's obviously expensive production values, which makes Lost's plane crash look like a sandy fender-bender, should dispel any doubts. You'll see those expenses "up on the screen" in many ways, but most notably in the series opening crash sequence, which shut down L.A.'s 110 freeway intermittently for three days (!) and extensive kangaroo training. ("The kangaroo is a thing." We'll have more on the marsupial closer to the premiere.)

Unlike most scripted series, exec producer Jessika Borsiczky Goyer said, "We have the bible for the entire series mapped out." Adds her husband, show runner David Goyer, "To do the show justice we would need three seasons."

That said, the Flash Forward folks are adamant that viewers not be cheated. "By the end of the first season we'll get to April 29, 2010—and beyond," said exec producer Marc Guggenheim. (Look for April 29, which is not coincidentally a Thursday, the day the show airs, to be episode 21 of season one, give or take.)

Maybe more important than marsupials and enormous production budgets, however, is the show's star power: multiplexers Dominic Monaghan, John Cho and Joseph Fiennes are all series regulars, joined by TV favorites Sonya Walger (Lost's Penny Widmore), Law & Order's Courtney B. Vance, Family Guy's Seth McFarlane, ER's Alex Kingston and all-around superstar Gabrielle Union...you get the picture. As David Goyer said, you need a "large ensemble cast to tell a big cinematic story."

We'll be there for the telling. Thank you, ABC!

MTV: EXCLUSIVE: 'Lost' Actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje In Talks For 'Black Panther' Lead

Posted 7/26/09 6:37 pm ET by Rick Marshall

With all of the attention heaped on "Iron Man 2," "Thor," "The First Avenger: Captain America" and Marvel's superhero team-up film "The Avengers," it's easy to forget about some of the other characters in the Marvel Universe rumored to have big-screen projects in the works. When we spoke to "Lost" actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje during a Comic-Con red carpet he told MTV News that he's been talking to Marvel about bringing one of those lesser-known characters to the screen -- specifically, the African warrior-king known as The Black Panther.

"We're talking to Marvel about 'Black Panther,'" Akinnuoye-Agbaje told MTV News. "This is the first round, so you know, hopefully they'll look at 'G.I. Joe' and see the potential. But it's about time we have a black superhero, isn't it?"

Akinnuoye-Agbaje said his hopes were high for the film, and the conditions were never better for it to get the green light.

"He's from a fictional village in Africa and the timing is so right for that kind of character to come through," he said. "And while I'm in my prime, this is the time. We've got [U.S. President Barack] Obama, now we need something on screen to represent, so... 'Panther,' man."

What do you think about Akinnuoye-Agbaje playing Black Panther? Think he'd be a good choice to bring T'Challa to life?

Kiele Sanchez Back In The Jungle!

Well...Yes...But not the jungles of LOST. But is Kiele Sanchez is still making a living running through the jungle trying to avoid death...and possibly may be a killer herself?
Kiele played Nikki on LOST (of the ill fated Nikki/Paulo experiment). Now you can see her playing Gina in A Perfect Getaway teamed up with Timothy Olyphant as Nick. They play part of a foursome that are on vacation and possibly being hunted in the lush Hawaiian landscape by a third couple.
Filmed in the jungles of Kaua'i, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and a 'cave' sequence shot in Jamaica.
Hmmmm...stuck on a dangerous island...lost in a jungle...with killers and caves?
Good to see Kiele is stretching as an actress! I hope they threw in a quick scene where she passes a huge spider web...looks up at it and says..."God, I HATE spiders"! Will audiences still be rooting for her to die?
A Perfect Getaway opens August 7th at a theater near you. For more pics of Kiele as Gina, click HERE.

Elizabeth Mitchell Talks V, Her Return to Lost and Sawyer's Happiness

Tue., Jul. 28, 2009 3:15 PM PDT by Natalie Abrams

Instead of bouncing around the space-time continuum and nestling up to the very hot and steamy Josh Holloway, this fall, Elizabeth Mitchell is fighting reptilian aliens on the remake of the '80s miniseries V.

However, that doesn't mean Juliet doesn't make at least an appearance in the sixth and final season of the ABC hit series Lost. In fact, she hopes Juliet finds happiness in the end, but that happiness may not necessarily be with Sawyer. Ruh-roh.

Lose Your V Card at Comic-Con

Sat., Jul. 25, 2009 9:47 PM PDT by

While ABC's soon-to-be hit series V is a Comic-Con virgin, its actors certainly aren't. Boasting such names as Lost's Elizabeth Mitchell, Firefly's Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk, The 4400's Joel Gretsch and Smallville's Laura Vandervoort, honestly, how can you go wrong?

The fans were certainly pleased to see the reimagining of the early '80s miniseries that brought the Visitors to Earth. Lucky for the non-attending Comic-Con fans, the series is jumping from midseason to a November premiere date, so you won't have to wait too long to see it. Also lucky for those fans, we've now watched the pilot four times and can give you the lowdown on what's coming up, as well as scoop straight from the cast on who to trust on the show. Hint: No one.
One early morning, 29 giant spaceships settle over major cities all over the world. While the leader of the Visitors, Anna (Baccarin), says they're willing to share their knowledge and technology in exchange for resources needed to get them home, she's actually fibbing. Sure, they say they "are of peace, always," but there's a very dark and sinister ulterior motive, which includes gaining the devotion of the people of Earth before annihilating them.
Problem is, the Vs didn't just show up, they've been here for a while, possibly as long as 50 years. They have long since infiltrated our planet, obtaining positions from police officers and FBI detectives to government officials. While some find the arrival of the Visitors heaven sent—largely in part to their medical centers that cure 65 different ailments—others, like Mitchell's character, Erica, doubt their friendly nature. Mitchell's fears are realized when she's tracking a sleeper cell whose activity has spiked upon the Visitors arrival.

This is where the two stories converge. On the one side, Erica is trying to find out who is behind this mysterious sleeper cell; on the other side, Georgie (David Richmond-Peck) is recruiting civilians to take down the Visitors, including Morris Chestnut's Ryan Nichols, who—spoiler alert—is actually a V rebelling against his race and living in peace among the humans. This is where trust comes into play, because Ryan's not the only V hiding his identity. Alan Tudyk has a secret, too...he is a V and he's not a savory guy. Did we mention his character, Dale Maddox, is Erica's partner at the FBI?

Trust. Out. The. Window. (In case you're wondering, Tudyk won't be staying around long due to his obligations on Dollhouse, and also because he's a murderous alien.)

"Any of us could be [a Visitor]," says Scott Wolf. "Your high school English professor could have been a Visitor. Bob Dylan might be a Visitor. It breathes that sense of anxiety and mistrust."
Speaking of Scott Wolf, his character, a reporter named Chad Decker, has been chosen by Anna to deliver all messages through him. Just a little snag, though: He can't paint the Visitors in a bad light. So in Chad's claim to fame, he's willing to do anything to stay on top, including endangering the human race. Says Wolf, "Will he feel guilt? Probably yeah, but will he also see the opportunity and lose out to his better self? Maybe." If it comes down to a choice between humans and his career, though? "At this point, I'd say his career. He's that guy," adds Wolf.
So pretty much the human race is headed on a path of destruction unless the underground movement can tear people away from devoting their lives, literally, to the Visitors. It's not going to be an easy journey, we can tell you that much.

Comic-Con Report 2009

Comic-Con was awesome like always. Like always I hit it hard. But this year it seemed like I really had to make tough choices with many panels that I wanted to go to at the same time as other ones that I had wanted to attend. But I still feel like it was very productive.

I went with my Brother-In-Law Chris and his two sons Jordan & Austin. Wednesday evening we arrived with enough time to get about an hour to walk around the booths and see things and for them to get a taste of things. It was fun to be able to see their astonishment over everything and even a bit of being overwhelmed.

On Thursday I signed up for Portfolio reviews/interviews and then caught the last ten minutes of a panel on writing children's books. Then I wandered the exhibit hall and went to a panel on Hasbro GI Joe toys and later one called Female Power mostly because Elizabeth Mitchell from Lost was on the panel. Before and after that I went through three interviews. The first one was for an advertising company and while they liked my work a lot they wanted a more realistic style. But the next two Lucasfilm Animation and Smorgasboard Animation asked if they could keep my portfolio because they have some upcoming projects that I might fit and they like to have talent on file for when they come up.

After that I met up with Chris and the boys at the hotel and Austin & I went to see a Premiere of Warner Bros Animation's new Green Lantern movie. It was really good!

On Friday we got a late start and I went to the Marvel: X-Men panel, Looks like a lot of big stuff coming up with Magneto regaining his power and a major crossover with X-Force. This was a hard choice for me because I had to choose between X-Men and a panel on the new show Flash Forward, but I love X-Men.

The boys got tired of the lines and crowds around noon and decided to take a bus to the San Diego Zoo.

Later I went to a panel by my animation organization called State of the Animation Industry which had a big emphasis on selling yourself and creating your own product (animation, comicbook, book, etc. and marketing it. In the evening I went to panels on Marvel & DC animation. It was so inspiring. This trip if anything has inspired me to draw more and create more and has allowed me to make friends in the industry. I have been able to get a few possible artist speakers for a friend Charles at the Animation Academy and been able to obtains books to further inspire me when back at home.

Saturday was a bit trying, but very good. A friend from this blog and the the Aint It Cool talkbacks (Rizzo) had stayed the night Friday night in the line for the final Lost panel. He was very kind and let me in line with him in the morning. He had a few friends from New York and we talked a lot about Lost and since he had served in the Navy we spoke about his service and about my Father in the Navy in 1952. Im posting more Lost stuff on the main page. http://lostroom23.blogspot.com/ I walked around the exibit hall after that, At the Flash Forward booth which is about how everyone has a 2 minute vision of what they will be doing 6 months into the future, so as part of the booth they put you in a room and you have to make up a vision which was recorded and uploaded onto their website.
After that I had a big decision, go to panels on a new show called Glee and the Entertainment magazine Jeff Jensen Lost discussion or panels with a screening of the first episode of V and of Fringe. I got in this long line 45 minutes before the V panel and didn't get in the room until the Fringe one started so I was bummed about that. But the Fringe panel was awesome! Alex Kurtzman, Robert Orci, and other creatives were there along with the main actors Anna Torv (Olivia), Josh Jackson (Peter), John Noble (Walter) and Jasika Nicole (I'm blanking at the moment her characters name) People kept asking John Noble how he gets into character to play someone who's crazy and he acted like there wasn't anything wrong with Walter, that he just reacts to people differently. He was kind acting in character though. They mentioned that since Peter is actually the Peter from another reality we will see Walter from that other reality possibly trying to reclaim Peter. Along with being able to seen alternate versions of other characters. They also mentioned that Charlie leaving was exaggerated, that he will be back. It was a good time.

I'm kicking myself though when I got home last night I read the report on the Doc Jensen/Lost panel and Gre gg Nations (Lost writer) and Michael Emerson (Lost Ben) had made a surprise appearance and it was in a smaller room, so I might have been about to possible meet them. So I missed that, but the Fringe panel was good also. During my last time on the hall the Trade Paperback half off vendors were cutting the price down to $5 for any book. So I picked up two $30, one $25 and one $15 X-Men books for $5 each! It was cool. After that was drove home.

Comic-Con Report 2009

This was the V (TV show) booth. Since its a show about Aliens who disguise themselves as humans and try to trick the humans by asking for help and have official welcome centers. The V booth was a Welcome area where the disguised aliens were handing out panphelets. ABC did a great job promoting both V and Flash Forward like they did with Lost.

EXCLUSIVE: Lost Star Michael Emerson "Surprised" By Emmy Nomination

Posted on Jul 16, 2009 @ 11:58AM

Actor Michael Emerson says he was thrilled, but somewhat taken aback to be nominated for another Emmy as Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role as creepy Ben Linus in ABC's Lost.

"It is exciting, I was surprised. I thought they may have moved on to newer fresher looks. I am flattered someone is still looking at our show," Emerson told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive phone interview Thursday morning.

Emerson learned about the Emmy nod when his agent called him Thursday in New York and woke him up.

This is actually the third time Emerson has been nominated for an Emmy for his role in Lost. He hasn't won for Lost, but in 2001, Emerson did snag an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for playing William Hinks on ABC's The Practice.

He says he’s also thrilled that the show was nominated for Best Drama Series.

We asked Michael how a good kid from Iowa can play such a creepy character like Ben. Do they have anything in common? Said Emerson: "I supposed over time, the more I play him, the more he is kindred to me. I won't say I'm like him, but I guess I spent so much time playing him. It's a little more obvious. He's a good listener, and has a dry sense of humor. He doesn't make rash decisions, so we have a number of things in common."

Emerson has a history of playing dangerous or damaged characters, and he says he usually gets a bizarre reaction when fans recognize him on the street.

"They express shock or fear or intimidation, but also really delighted to run into me. They have mixed emotions, kind of a happy terror. They tend to be very formal with me, and not over familiar."

Emerson -- who lives in Hawaii eight months a year while shooting Lost -- calls the eventual end of the series a "bittersweet affair." He adds: "It will be sad to leave a part that is such a good fit to me, a part that brings such attention. It will be nice to take up residence in North America and be closer to friends and loved ones."

At the top of that "loved one" list: Emerson's actress/wife Carrie Preston, who has appeared on Lost and now stars on HBO's True Blood.

As for the most common question he gets asked by fans? The answer may not surprise you. Emerson says: "They think I know how its going to end. I don't know and I am glad I don't know."

So what's next for the seasoned actor, who has appeared both on stage and screen? "It would be nice if there was a good play. I honestly don't know what will happen. I will be looking to have a change of pace."

Flash Forward: Dominic Monaghan Is Indeed Confirmed

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Thankfully I am still awake at this time. This just in: SpoilerTV reports that Lost's Dominic Monaghan is indeed joining the cast of ABC's new series, Flash Forward.

Speculation that Monaghan is joining the series began when he popped up on a network promo plugging ABC's fall lineup. While initially network reps denied that he is returning to Lost, it was confirmed that he is joining a new show on the network, which turned out to be Flash Forward, a series where people around the world deal with the catastrophic effects of a two-minute blackout--and is touted as a successor to Lost, which is wrapping up its run next year.

At the same time, speculation also arose that Monaghan is returning to Lost, after he was spotted meeting with show executives, and numerous rumors spread across the Internet. While there's no official word on whether the already-dead Charlie will be revived, it seems they're heading towards that direction.

SpoilerTV reports what was previously reported around a month ago: Monaghan will appear on the series beginning from its second episode. His character is named Theo, and he has started production. His co-stars include Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Sonya Walker and Jack Davenport.

Emilie De Ravin ‘Lost’ in RPattz?

Emilie De Ravin ‘Lost’ in RPattz?

Monday, July 13, 2009 10:51 AM

Despite what a lot of Twilight fans wish, Emilie De Ravin hasn’t been castaway or ‘lost’ on an island at sea. The only island that the star has been spending a lot of time lately is Manhattan.
Which depending on the way you look at it has plenty of fresh food and water and a certain hunky, Robert Pattinson.

According to reports, the two have been getting cozy at under the radar dive bars and he’s teaching her to play pool. There’s also chatter that the two have been having plenty of late night rendezvous at each other’s hotel rooms.

Well, that sure beats hanging out on a lost island any day of the week.

Lost in Lossie ; Telly Star EXCLUSIVE Matthew Fox Lies Low in Scots Town

July 12, 2009
By JOHN MILLAR

HOLLYWOOD actor Matthew Fox thought he could get away from the pressures of fame on a trip to the north of Scotland.

So the star of mould-breaking TV series Lost was shocked when he was spotted by fans in the harbour town of Lossiemouth.

Matthew, 42, was sight-seeing in the north-east with his 12-year- old daughter Kyle on their first visit to Scotland.

He said: "I was very surprised by how excited everybody was that I was there.

"It is always very strange to me because I try to convince myself that nobody in the world knows who I am and I am just going to do what I want.

"But the Scottish people were very nice and polite and the countryside is absolutely spectacular. It was a very good stay. I enjoyed it very much.

"We flew to Aberdeen then drove to Lossiemouth and it was stunning - a beautiful town.

Sunshine

Matthew brought Kyle to Morayshire to go to a world-renowned summer school after hearing about its programme of academic, art, drama, sport and adventure courses.

Speaking at the Rome Fiction TV Festival, he said: "We had a nice couple of days there. My daughter Kyle is having a great time in Scotland.

"It stays light. The sun did not set until 10.30 at night then it just got dusk for a few hours till the sun came back up again, which was pretty awesome - I loved that."

The actor may have loved all things Scottish but admits he was not brave enough to try our national dish.

He said: "I didn't try haggis but I had lamb. I didn't go for any of the more radical things. I might try haggis next time."

Matthew is now off to film the sixth and final series of Lost in Hawaii with co-stars Evangeline Lilly, Ian Somerhalder and Dominic Monaghan.

He revealed the end of the awardwinning show about the bizarre adventures of the survivors of a plane crash will be a landmark in his life and career.

After the final scenes are shot, he plans to move his family - wife, former model Margherita, Kyle, and eight-year-old son Byron - to a ranch in Oregon and take as much as six months off.

Matthew, who grew up on a ranch in Wyoming, said: "I am not a tropical island, sunshine every day person.

"I am 42 and a father of two children and I don't want to miss them growing up. I don't want to find myself 10 years from now feeling like I was an absentee father because I was so focused on my career."

When he is ready to work again, Matthew wants to have a less all- consuming schedule by making just one or two movies a year.

He said: "I am not going to do television again. That's not because I think film is better than television. Not at all, in some of the respects some of the best storytelling is happening on television.

"But I have done two TV shows - Lost and Party Of Five - that have each run for six years. When you add it all up it is in the vicinity of 300 hours of television."

"I want to find a way to have more control over when I am working and when I'm not. I'm looking for more flexibility.

"And when the movie is finished I really need to spend time with the people who are the most important in the world to me."

The global success of Lost has turned Matthew into a hot property and he has appeared in films such as the thriller Vantage Point, kids adventure Speed Racer and true life sports drama We Are Marshall.

Not surprisingly, since he first got on horseback when he was only six years old, Matthew's dream is to make a Western.

Westerns That wish might come true since the Wild West is back in fashion in the film world. There is even talk of the Coen Brothers - Oscar-winning makers of No Country For Old Men - doing a remake of True Grit.

Matthew said: "If there are more Westerns made then I would be happy. I love them and someday I would love to be in one."

Despite being one of the world's most famous faces, the actor is an unlikely star.

At university he got a degree in economics with the aim of getting a job on Wall Street. But after one interview he figured a life in high finance was not for him. Nor did he seem ideally suited to an acting career, as he was born into a home where therewas no TV set.

Matthew said: "It was not so much that my dad didn't like television, he just really loved books and I'm trying to carry on the old man's tradition.

"We allow our kids to watch a little bit of television. An hour a day is the rule but they are very manipulative and wily about finding ways to extend that.

"I don't want to be as a hard core as my dad was, though I respect him a great deal."

Matthew reckons that it is not a bad thing if kids complain they are bored because they do not have TV to watch.

He added: "When you are bored, you are going to use your imagination to develop some version of the world that is exciting to you. That was something my father encouraged."

Perhaps restricting his own children's viewing in the same way will lead them to become international TV stars? Matthew said: "I don't think my dad has ever fully explored the irony of that."

FlashForward - Plot Details from Producers

Under penalty of being blacklisted from all things ABC, we bring you news -- but not a review -- from a press screening of the network's coming sci-fi-tinged drama "FlashForward." (The title! That's the first piece of news. It has gone from two words to one. Buh-bye space between H and F!)

"FlashForward," loosely based on Robert J. Sawyer's novel of the same name, revolves around a mysterious global event in which all of mankind suffers a brief, simultaneous blackout and gets a glimpse of their lives six months from now. Joseph Fiennes stars as FBI agent Mark Benford, the man charged with unraveling the cause behind the event. His own gritty vision includes what appears to be clues to cracking the case. Other so-called easter eggs -- try a kangaroo hopping around downtown L.A. -- appear to be scattered throughout the hour.

Which means show runners David S. Goyer and Marc Guggenheim were mostly tight-lipped at the Q&A that followed, but managed to talk (a little) about . . .

Dominic Monaghan: TV biz watchers have been tracking -- but will still not get confirmation -- on the rumors that the "Lost" casualty has been added to the cast. Goyer and Guggenheim declined to speak to the online speculation. "Obviously, we're not going to tell you that," Goyer said. "So much of the speculation is so . . . wrong; it's awesome."

Sonya Walger: Otherwise known as Penny, Desmond's beloved on "Lost." She plays Benford's wife, Dr. Olivia Benford, a series regular, but will it spell doom for Penny? Of course, no one's talking.

Seth MacFarlane: Yes, Seth MacFarlane, creator of "Family Guy," has landed himself a recurring role on the show as part of the FBI team working alongside Benford. Goyer said MacFarlane liked the script so much he "begged" for a part on it. Ditto "E.R." alumna Alex Kingston, who also appears in the pilot.

April 29, 2010: It's not much of a spoiler to say it's an important date on the show. The first season will build to this day -- but it won't be the finale.

A contained story: Provided ratings are strong, Goyer said, the series could be completed in as few as three seasons or as many as seven.

You think you know the story they're telling . . . : But producers promise: You don't! After the first seven episodes, the rules will be established and will be so not what we were thinking. And that's all they're saying about that.

Advance planning in a post-'Lost' world: If anything, the producers were full of assurances that there would be no loose ends on the show. "By the end of the first season, we'll have caught up to their future and things will be resolved," Goyer said. In regard to the first 24 episodes, the fates of the 10 main characters have long been decided, he added.

Also, of note, Brannon Braga, who created the show with Goyer, will remain an executive producer, but will continue day to day as a co-executive producer on "24."

Flash Forward - New Promo - September 24th

Producer: Why Flash Forward won't drive you crazy like Lost

FlashForward cast (From left): Jack Davenport, Peyton List, Sonya Walger, Zachary Knighton, Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Courtney B. Vance, Brian O'Byrne, Christine Woods
Marc Guggenheim, executive producer of ABC's upcoming sci-fi series Flash Forward, said that the show will tell a complete story in its first season, and that the season finale will answer the question raised in the pilot: What did you see?

"We know exactly ... what season one is, with great specificity, because at ... the outset, we had to plan the entire season," Guggenheim said in an exclusive phone interview on Friday, adding: "The first season ends with our characters' catching up to their futures. So you can't do that on the fly. I mean, I suppose you could, but I don't think it would be a very satisfying viewing experience for anybody."

Based on the novel by Canadian SF author Robert J. Sawyer, Flash Forward begins when every person on Earth blacks out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, during which time each has a vision of his or her future six months from now. The show comes from executive producers David S. Goyer and Brannon Braga (Threshold); Guggenheim (Eli Stone) will be the show runner along with Goyer (The Dark Knight), who also directed the pilot.

"We made the commitment at the outset [to] plan out the entire first season before we start breaking episode two," Guggenheim said. "So the very first thing we did, apart from ... figuring out character backstories and [all] that—when the time came ... to actually start breaking story, it was, 'OK, how are we going to move the characters from where they are in episode one to where they are at the end of the season?'"

Flash Forward stars Joseph Fiennes as Mark Benford, John Cho as Demetri Noh, Jack Davenport as Lloyd Simcoe, Sonya Walger as Olivia Benford, Courtney B. Vance as Stan Wedeck, Brian O'Byrne as Aaron Stark, Christine Woods as Janis Hawk, Zachary Knighton as Bryce Varley and Peyton List as Nicole.

Following is an edited version of our exclusive interview with Guggenheim. Flash Forward premieres Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and will air on Thursdays.

Tell me about the show and how it departs from the Robert Sawyer novel.

Guggenheim: What the show is about is really simple. Everyone in the world blacks out at the same time on the same day, and during their blackout they have a vision of their future for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, six months into the future. They all wake up and deal with the consequences. They deal with the consequences of the blackout. They deal with the consequences of the things that they learned during their flash-forwards.

So what the show does is it poses the question of, if you knew the future, what would you do? ... Would you try to fight it? Would you try to make it happen? Would your interpretation of the future be correct? ...

What this show does is it places every single character in the world in the position of learning their future and then trying to figure out, now that I know this information, what am I going to do next?

There are several things that are different from the book. The characters are different, the time frame is different—I think the book offers a glimpse 21 years into the future. Tell me what guided David and Brannon and you in making the changes you needed to make this viable as a TV show.

Guggenheim: Basically the book provided the concept, ... the notion of a worldwide blackout, people flash-forward into their future. ... Pretty much everything else is different. The characters are different. The circumstances are different, the nature of the stories that we're telling are different. ...

The novel is essentially a jumping-off point for us. ... I will say that in the series, what we're doing is we're taking the situations and characters set up in the pilot and running with them. ...

In the pilot, several characters in our cast really see their future, have their flash-forwards, and it's ... the mission statement of the first season of the show to go from ... the present day to six months out ... so by the end of the season we see how those futures have panned out or come to pass. And the journey that our characters take on the way to their future. ...

You have a really strong cast here, including some people that may be surprising to see in series television, such as Joseph Fiennes. How did they get involved, and what do they bring to a show like this?

Guggenheim: Well, I think first and foremost, in the entire cast, you get talent. I mean, it is a very, very deep bench talent-wise. ... It's made all the more remarkable by the fact that we have 10 series regulars, ... eight or 10, depending. ... It is remarkable that every single one of them have game. ... There's not a single weak link in the chain. ...

We have a Tony Award-winning actor, we have Joe [Fiennes], we have Courtney Vance. We have actors who have done more than television. Who have done theater, who have done film, who are not, as you said, ... people you expect to see on a TV show. That's because I think the whole viewing experience, people ... will really liken it more to a movie. ... When they see the first season, they'll liken it to a 24-hour-long movie. ...

Viewers will undoubtedly be happy to hear that you'll be answering questions in the first season, because one thing viewers have grown to hate—partly as a result of Lost—is the feeling that the writers are vamping to keep it going, with an indeterminate end in the future.

Guggenheim: Well, I am very sensitive to that, actually, as a fan and as a writer. I actually understand that feeling, and I'm very, very sensitive about it. And towards that end, I can actually tell you a couple of things to make those fans who are concerned feel better. The first is, we don't have a choice. We can't vamp. We say in the pilot that the characters are going to see ... a vision of their future [on] April 29, 2010. Which means we've got six months. There ain't no vamping to be done.

We plant a very specific flag, so even if we wanted to vamp, we no longer have the option. That's point number one. Point number two is, there are things laid into the pilot that don't pay off until the very end of the series. So David and Brannon, in writing and directing the pilot, have also planted flags right there in the pilot that ... you'll be able to look back on and go, "Oh, they really did know what they were doing." So my point always is, we are not only telling you that we have a plan, there are several reasons why you don't have to just take our word for it.

Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy Slated for September

More on Dom in Flash Forward

Silvia in Kansas City, Kan.: What's with the new ABC promo that has Dominic Monaghan saying he "used to be dead"? Is that a huge clue that there will be a reset and Charlie Pace will be back on Lost?

That was the big rumor on Friday; however, sources now tell our friends at IGN that Dominic Monaghan has a major role in ABC's new series Flash Forward. No word yet on his character, but we do know that he won't be introduced until episode two or so.

IGN: Exclusive: Dominic Monaghan's ABC Future

Exclusive: Dominic Monaghan's ABC Future
We think we know where to look for the former Charlie Pace next season.
by Eric Goldman
June 8, 2009 - Last Friday, there was quite a lot of Internet chatter over a new ABC promo, featuring stars from several of the network's 2009-2010 season shows, including Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy), Courteney Cox (Cougar Town), Ed O'Neill (Modern Family) and… Dominic Monaghan?

Monaghan's presence caused a lot of confusion and speculation, because he's been gone from Lost for quite awhile. Add in him responding with, "I was" in the promo, when asked if he was dead, and many wondered if we were to take from this that Charlie was returning to Lost.

As it turned out, EW.com's Michael Ausiello discovered that rather than returning to Lost, the promo instead was referring to Monaghan's role on a new ABC series. Of course ABC has a rather notable ten new scripted series for next season, meaning there were a lot of possibilities as to what show Monaghan would be part of.

IGN has now learned what show Monaghan may be on and that it's one we already were quite intrigued by - Flash Forward.

Like others (including in our comments), we had thought Flash Forward seemed like a very strong candidate for Monaghan's secret show. Created by Brannon Braga and David Goyer, the high concept series is being positioned by ABC as something of a spiritual follow up to Lost and it's one of two geek-friendly series -- the other being the remake of V -- that would most mesh with the Lost fanbase Monaghan brings with him. Sources in the know regarding Monaghan's situation now tell IGN that indeed seems to be the case, and Monaghan will likely have a major role on Flash Forward.

Click above to watch a scene from Flash ForwardWe contacted ABC about Monaghan for an official response, and a spokesperson told us, "There is a lot of speculation out there right now, but we're not confirming any casting at this point."

Based on the novel by Robert J. Sawyer, Flash Forward's cast includes Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love), John Cho (Harold & Kumar / Star Trek), Sonya Walger (Penny on Lost) and Jack Davenport (the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy). The story follows what happens when a global event causes everyone on Earth to black out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds. The populace awakens to discover the many tragedies that occurred as a result of the phenomenon, while also infused with visions of their own future.

Flash Forward will air Thursdays at 8:00pm ET/PT on ABC this fall.

Emilie de Ravin to play Ally in 'Remember Me'?

We hear rumblings that blonde ingénue Emilie de Ravin has been tapped to star opposite Robert Pattinson in his upcoming drama Remember Me.

Known for her turns on ABC’s Lost and the high school noir film Brick, de Ravin will play Pattinson’s love interest in Remember Me, about a couple struggling to stay together despite individual family tragedies.

Director Allen Coulter will head up the project, who previously made Ben Affleck’s Hollywoodland and directed several episodes of Sex and the City.

Reps for de Ravin declined to comment.

Pre-production begins this month with an expected February 2010 release.

Dream Emmy Ballot parts 3 & 4

Dream Emmy Ballot part 3: Best Lead Actor and Actress (comedy)
May 28, 2009, 03:02 PM by Michael Ausiello

Hey, Emmy voters, tired of me yet? No? Good, because we still have six more categories to get through, including the two below -- lead actor and actress in a comedy. (My suggestions for lead actor and actress in a drama will be posted later this evening, followed by outstanding comedy series and drama series tomorrow.) To recap: Use this list of recommendations as your guide when the balloting process gets underway next week. I'll be checking to see how closely you paid attention when the nods come out on July 16.

Best Lead Actor (Comedy)
• Alec Baldwin (30 Rock): Ironically, he soared by bringing his loopy character down to earth.
• Kyle Bornheimer (Worst Week): The (super-funny) show didn't last. But let's keep its Everyman star as a souvenir.
• Steve Carell (The Office): With the help of Amy Ryan's Holly, he gave Michael some heart and depth.
• Zachary Levi (Chuck): Who else shifts as easily between comedy, drama, and kung fu? That's right, no one.
• Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory): Revenge of the nerd!
• James Roday (Psych): My sixth sense says this is the underrated comic's year.

Best Lead Actress (Comedy)
• Christina Applegate (Samantha Who?) Made trying to be good look good.
• Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory): Only a real dork would write her off as just another pretty face.
• America Ferrera (Ugly Betty): Deserves major props for hiding the series' signs of wear. Without a poncho, even!
• Tina Fey (30 Rock): I want her to go to there. Again.
• Joanna Garcia (Privileged): If Emmy didn't shun The CW, it'd admit it loved Garcia.
• Eva Longoria-Parker (Desperate Housewives): The most unsung member of the ensemble is also its funniest. Let's give her some love.

Dream Emmy Ballot part 4: Best Lead Actor and Actress (drama)
May 28, 2009, 08:35 PM by Michael Ausiello

Let's get serious for a moment, Emmy voters. Below you'll find the penultimate installment of my 2009 Dream Emmy Ballot, this one focused on two of this year's most competitive categories -- lead actor and actress in a drama series. (My suggestions for outstanding comedy and drama series will be posted tomorrow.) Please use this list of recommendations as your own personal cheat sheet when the real balloting process begins next week. Sound good? Cool. Oh, and I will be checking my picks against the official nominations when they come out on July 16. You know, just to see if you copied correctly.

Best Actor (Drama)
• Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment): He bared his soul as his shrink got shrunk.
• Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights): The series' heart and soul never punts. Ever.
• Michael Chiklis (The Shield): He made his character sympathetic right down to his final despicable act. That's art.
• Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad): I'm not a fan of reruns, but c'mon, last year's winner deserves a repeat.
• Hugh Laurie (House): He kissed Cuddy, lost Kutner, saw dead people, and got committed. 'Nuff said.
• Denis Leary (Rescue Me): Fired up about the show's creative resurgence? Thank the guy who fanned the flame.

Best Actress (Drama)
• January Jones (Mad Men): Played the ultimate desperate housewife with remarkable restraint.
• Regina King (Southland): Her complicated, compassionate cop is the standout in a top-notch ensemble.
• Jeanne Tripplehorn (Big Love): When her devout character was excommunicated, it was a religious experience for me, too!
• Glenn Close (Damages): So sharp, she cut clean through a scattered season 2.
• Evangeline Lilly (Lost): She parted ways with "son" Aaron and delivered the mother of all performances.
• Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men): Masterfully conveyed the quiet pain of giving up a child.

Dream Emmy Ballot

Dream Emmy Ballot part 1: Best Supporting Actor and Actress (comedy)
May 26, 2009, 03:36 PM by Michael Ausiello

Attention Emmy voters: The process of choosing this year's nominations begins next week, and you have better things to do than try to catch up on 600 hours of TV. Well, maybe not you, Jim Belushi. But the rest of you. And that's where I come in. Once again, I've singled out who (and what) I think is most deserving of kudos so you don't have to. It was extra complicated this year, since the rules allow for six nominees, up from five, in each category. But I persevered. As a result, starting today and continuing until Friday, I'll be rolling out my picks for all the major categories. Copy my choices below onto your ballots, and we'll all be the better for it when the nominations are announced on July 16. Trust me. First up: Supporting actor and actress in a comedy...

Best Supporting Actress (Comedy)
* Andrea Anders (Better Off Ted): Because I didn't think any actress could ever even begin to fill the void left by Lauren Graham.
* Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies): The tube is full of actresses who are cute and perky. But can you name another who is cute, perky and not annoying?
* Jennifer Esposito (Samantha Who?): Raise a glass to the funniest TV boozehound since AbFab. And then leave the bottle.
* Jane Krakowski (30 Rock): She killed when her character attempted to commit murder all in the name of getting a date with a hot EMT. And that was just the beginning.
* Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother): She could be the most underrated comic actress working today. And by "could," I mean "is." (And please take out the "be.")
* Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty): Her one-liners may've lacked a little bite, but damn if she didn't still bark 'em like nobody's business.

Best Supporting Actor (Comedy)
* Adam Baldwin (Chuck): He takes his spy work so seriously you can't help but laugh. (I mean, it's not like he's digging for scoop!)
* Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother): His mad crush on Robin turned the one-time cad into a fully-formed human being. Okay, it turned him into a cad with a heart. That's still progress.
* Chi McBride (Pushing Daisies): Rude and crude and... wait, cuddly? Yes, cuddly. Emmy him. Now.
* Tracy Morgan (30 Rock): If you've gotta be smart to play dumb, he's a genius. Like, Big Bang Theory genius.
* Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother): For once, can't the nice guy finish first?
* Michael Urie (Ugly Betty): Marc finally got (and lost) a man, and Urie got his best material ever, rising to it week after week.

Agree/disagree with my picks? Consider the comments section below your own personal Dream Emmy Ballot.

Dream Emmy Ballot part 2: Best Supporting Actor and Actress (drama)
May 27, 2009, 01:58 PM by Michael Ausiello

Think my job is easy? You try narrowing down the potential nominees for the best supporting actress in a drama Emmy to just six finalists. I could make the case for at least a dozen candidates, but alas, Emmy rules allow for only half that many (I stretched it to a seventh, because I literally could not eliminate any of the women below). And the supporting actor category wasn't exactly a cakewalk, either. Anyway, you know the drill, voters: Use this list of recommendations as your guide when the balloting process gets underway next week. We'll see how closely you paid attention when the nods come out on July 16. (Coming up tomorrow: my picks for best lead actor and actress in a comedy and drama.)

Best Supporting Actress (Drama)
* Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights): Episode 8. When her character realizes she isn't going to be getting her new dream home. Excitement. Desperation. Resignation. All in three minutes. She deserves her own category.
* Ginnifer Goodwin (Big Love): It'd be easy to overlook her sunny character as mere comic relief. Easy and wrong.
* Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy): Though the cancer arc tested my patience, damned if she didn't sell the material like her life depended on it. (Memo to Shonda Rhimes: As such, please don't kill her off.)
* Christina Hendricks (Mad Men): If it takes a strong woman to show her soft side, this one's Hercules in heels. Hers is my favorite Mad Men character by far.
* Alison Pill (In Treatment): As a young cancer patient purging her soul, she was part sad, part inspiring, all perfection.
* CCH Pounder (The Shield): She fought two evil foes (lupus, Mackey) with fierce determination. If Mackey was this show's driving force, Claudette was its secret weapon.
* Chloe Sevigny (Big Love): The sneakier her character got, the more I wanted to give her a hug. Oh, and an Emmy!

Best Supporting Actor (Drama)
* Walton Goggins (The Shield): Right down to his character's dying breath, he kept us gasping in awe. A mesmerizing performance.
* Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad): Slowly stepping out of Bryan Cranston's shadow, he revealed himself to be a powerhouse actor in his own right.
* John Noble (Fringe): You know how the show kinda feels familiar? Well, there's nothing familiar about Noble's kooky, quirky scientist.
* Jeremy Davies (Lost): As the show was nearly swallowed up by mythology, he supplied much of the heart that kept us invested.
* Ryan Kwanten (True Blood): Yes, he's pretty. He's also pretty amazing. (You can argue with me after you've played an extended-erection subplot with the kind of go-for-broke abandon that he did.)
* Jon Voight (24): The acting vet's challenge: Play a power hungry, murdering evildoer without coming off as a cartoon. Mission accomplished!

Evangeline Lilly Calls Angelina Jolie Her Ideal 'Ice Queen'

By Michael Y. Park

Originally posted Tuesday May 26, 2009 01:15 PM EDT

Lost star Evangeline Lilly doesn't want mega-stardom, but if she had to become a Hollywood A-lister, she'd want to do it like – who else? – Angelina Jolie, she says.

"No one knows that woman; she's a complete ice queen, which is perfect," the intensely private Lilly tells Women's Health in the June issue. "Why should she be any more? She doesn't owe us anything."

Lilly, who says she's frequently berated by a colleague on ABC's island drama for forgoing chances at becoming Hollywood's next big thing, says if she had to have Jolie's life, she'd choose only one half of it: the charity work.

"Sure, I'd love to be her, but just the [humanitarian] side," Lilly says.

Even now, she's not entirely happy with the attention she sometimes gets, saying that she get angry when people take her photograph, and that she doesn't understand why people keep asking her if she and former costar Dominic Monaghan are dating.

"If I were to tell you that Sandra Miggum and Henry Pickett are dating, would you ever care? They're completely fictional, so you don't know them," she says. "Well, people don't know us. So why should they care?"

But Lilly says she's confident she'll eventually find a path away from the cameras – and that she knows how to deal with it in the meantime.

"Right now, I'm happy doing a job that's not my ultimate dream," she says. "Even if you're unhappy, just pretend that you're happy. Eventually, your smile will be contagious to yourself. I had to learn that – I used to think, 'I'm being fake,' but you know what? Better to be fake and happy than real and miserable."

Io9: What Your 2009-2010 Network TV Will Look Like

By Graeme McMillan, 12:00 PM on Sat May 23 2009

Get prepared to set your long-range TiVos. Now that the networks have all announced their new line-ups, we've got the rundown of where all your favorite (and soon-to-be-favorite) shows will be next season.

Monday
Mondays stay their relatively lowkey selves with the new schedule and, if anything, become even more quiet for SFTV; Heroes and Chuck, both on reduced seasons, end up sharing the 8pm timeslot on NBC (Heroes' 19 episode fourth season goes first, with Chuck's 13 episode third season replacing it in the spring of 2010), with Heroes and Lost alum Jesse Alexander's new show Day One taking up the 9pm timeslot on NBC in 2010. Otherwise, it's a light night, although honorary io9 shows House on Fox and The Big Bang Theory on CBS keep on keeping on (Although BBT is being moved to 9:30pm).

Tuesday
Feel free to go outside or catch up on some cable shows on Tuesdays; Fringe has been moved away from its original timeslot, and until Fox premieres reincarnation crime procedural Past Life in its former 9pm slot midseason, there's almost nothing to see here (The exception being ABC's Better Off Ted, which will start its new 9:30pm slot as soon as Dancing With The Stars finishes). Move along.

Wednesday
Just like Tuesday, we're grasping at straws here until midseason, when new Fox drama Human Target will premiere at 9pm (It'll be replacing Glee, which I shamefully have to admit having loved the preview of last week. Don't judge me). Of possible interest: ABC's Eastwick, which adapts (and, more than likely, homogenizes) the John Updike novel/Jack Nicholson movie The Witches of Eastwick, may turn out to be more interesting than the "Desperate Housewives meets Bewitched" show I'm dreading. Not currently scheduled, but almost certainly on Wednesdays in spring 2010, the final season of Lost.

Thursday
Okay, this is the night to be thankful for TiVo, or else to make some hard choices as to what to watch and what to torrent Hulu later. ABC's new Flash Forward will air Thursdays at 8pm, which is the same timeslot as the CW's equally-new-but-probably-less-good Vampire Diaries and the not-SF-but-kinda fifth season of Bones on Fox (Also, not SF at all but still potentially worth watching at 8pm: NBC are doing more SNL Weekend Update Thursday). 9pm, you'll have to choose between Fringe in its new timeslot on Fox or Supernatural in its old timeslot on the CW; Annalee's head may explode, but this is one of those occasions where my love of multiverse stories makes a choice surprisingly easy (Sorry, Winchester Bros.).

Friday
With more networks pushing more "hit" shows to Friday, I can't quite tell if that means that the old "Friday is where shows go to die" school of thinking is over, or that networks are trying to kill off some shows quietly (Hi, Ugly Betty!). There're only a couple of shows in our target demographic here, though; Smallville takes up residence for its please-God-final season at 8pm on the CW, while Dollhouse starts all over again in its old timeslot, and we keep fingers crossed that (a) it has a stronger start to the season than last time, and (b) more people tune in live this time (Seriously, DVD sales and Hulu views aren't going to keep this thing alive for a third season, people).

Saturday/Sunday
Both nights are incredibly quiet, especially following this summer's burning of remaining episodes of shows we love (Don't forget, Pushing Daisies' final three episodes begin May 30th at 10pm on ABC, and Kings is back on Saturdays next month), but we're hopeful that that'll change as various shows begin to become so unpopular that they get dumped there. Call us cynical, but we'd rather just say realistic...

Still Unscheduled
We know that ABC's V remake is a go, but it's not been given a home yet; looking at the schedules that've been announced, there's theoretically space for it on Mondays following the end of Dancing With The Stars, but somehow I'm not sure that the network would really want to pair it with The Bachelor... Perhaps they're waiting to find out when Lost is returning, to make an Elizabeth Mitchell one-two punch, or perhaps details are still being worked out about exactly how the rebooted V will work (We've heard rumors of a six episode season, a thirteen episode season and a full season so far, after all). Wherever it ends up, I wouldn't expect to see it until midseason at this point.
